Context
The project involves renovating the port of Betey, located in the municipality of Andernos-les-Bains, on behalf of the Syndicat Mixte des Ports du Bassin d’Arcachon (SMPBA).
The aim of the operation is to secure the port and modernize its infrastructure, while maintaining its capacity and respecting the surrounding natural areas: the Betey stream, the wooded beach, and the mudflats.
The existing structure, a sheet pile quay dating from the late 1960s, was in poor condition in places and access for vessels had deteriorated due to corrosion of the ladders.
The safety aspect of the project includes renovating the existing structure by creating a new sheet pile quay, widening the access channels and the slipway, and adding floating pontoons and walkways to allow access to vessels.
The modernization of the facilities includes the renovation of parking spaces, the addition of networks (drinking water and electricity on the pontoons), and the addition of new equipment: a black water collection and treatment unit, a charging station for electric ships, and a boarding ramp for people with reduced mobility.
For this project, Balineau acted as the lead contractor for a consortium with Etchart CGM (concrete coping and guardrails) and BUESA SAS (earthworks, embankments, and expansion of the slipway).
Location
Andernos, France
Duration of works
2023 / 2026
Presentation of the works
The new quay consists of sheet piles installed by vibratory driving and equipped with inclined bored tie rods. After backfilling, the concrete cap on the sheet piles and the pontoon guide rails are installed.
To take into account local concerns (no work during the peak tourist season) and minimize the impact of the construction site, the project was divided into three sectors to be completed in three successive years, from 2023 to 2026.
The site was the scene of significant co-activity, with port activities continuing throughout the project, archaeological excavations carried out during phase 01, and a school located nearby (the construction schedule was adapted to school holidays).
